Key takeaways
- Delivered squares, not quoted squares, drive cost.
- Crew labor is costed per square installed.
- Claims compute ACV from RCV and depreciation.
- Margin is available the week the roof finishes.
Roofing is quoted in squares and lost in the gap between the squares quoted and the squares delivered. A twenty-eight square roof is ordered at thirty for waste, arrives as thirty, and is costed in the accounts as twenty-eight. Do that on every job for a season and the shop is quietly less profitable than its own estimates say. Add insurance work, where the money arrives in two checks months apart, and the picture gets harder still. RoofDesk US keeps the three numbers apart.
Quoted, delivered, installed
The estimate computes material and labor from the squares and your per-square rates. The delivery records what the supplier actually dropped. The job records what was installed.
Material cost comes from the deliveries, which is the only one of the three that reflects money that left the business.
Crews cost per square
Each crew carries its own cost per square, so a steep-slope crew, a tear-off crew and a membrane crew are never averaged together.
Labor cost then follows the squares installed by the crew that installed them, which is how a low-slope job stops being compared against a shingle job.
Claims have their own arithmetic
A claim records the replacement cost, the depreciation and the deductible, and computes the actual cash value from them.
The status reads Awaiting first check, ACV received or Supplement pending, and the reconciliation view shows what the homeowner owes against what the insurer still owes.
Margin per roof, not per month
Job margin subtracts delivered material, crew labor and disposal from the contract amount, available the week the roof is finished.
Read across a season it usually says something specific: the tear-off charge on two-layer roofs is too low, or the waste allowance on steep pitches is not in the price.
Review exceptions every week
Resolve duplicate IDs, missing links, overdue balances, negative amounts, and open operational items in CHECKS before using the dashboard for decisions.
