Key takeaways
- Spread is measured against your posted board rate.
- Off-board deals are flagged, not blocked.
- Position is held in foreign units per currency.
- The peso drawer has a computed figure to match.
A money changer looks like a simple business and carries two risks at once. The first is rate risk: the currency bought this morning may be worth less tonight. The second is control risk: a teller accommodating a friend at a better rate leaves no trace in a notebook. PalitDesk PH records each deal against the posted board rate, so the spread earned, the position held and the cash in the drawer are all figures rather than assumptions.
The board rate is the benchmark
The counter posts a buy rate and a sell rate for each currency. Every deal records the rate actually used, which is often the board rate but not always.
Spread per unit measures the deal against the board: a buy earns the sell rate less what was paid, a sell earns what was charged less the buy rate.
Accommodations become visible
When a deal is made outside the board rates, the spread turns negative and the row reads Below board rate.
Nothing is blocked, because a counter will sometimes accommodate a large or regular customer. The point is that the accommodation is on the record and can be counted.
Position is measured in units, not pesos
Closing units per currency is opening units plus bought less sold. A counter that has sold more dollars than it holds reads Oversold.
Keeping the position in foreign units rather than pesos is what makes it useful, because the peso value moves while the exposure does not.
The drawer has a figure to match
The peso cash position adds the float in, subtracts the float out, adds what came in from sells, subtracts what went out on buys, then subtracts expenses.
The checks count duplicate deal identifiers, deals naming a currency that is not on file, settlements naming a deal that does not exist, and any currency sold beyond the units held.
Review exceptions every week
Resolve duplicate IDs, missing links, overdue balances, negative amounts, and open operational items in CHECKS before using the dashboard for decisions.

Frequently asked questions
Does it get live exchange rates?
No. You set your own board buy and sell rates on the currency. Every deal is measured against those.
How do large deals settled by bank work?
Mark the settlement type as Bank and record each transfer against the deal. Paid accumulates until the balance reaches zero.
Does it file BSP or AMLA reports?
No. It records the identification presented for your own file. Regulatory reporting stays outside the workbook.
Does this replace official records?
No. No BSP reporting, AMLA covered or suspicious transaction reports, no live or automatic exchange rate feed, no customer due diligence or watchlist screening, no remittance sending or receiving, and no bank account reconciliation.
