The cycle is the unit of cost

Fingerling purchases, feedings and pond preparation, labour and harvest expenses are all tagged to a cycle, and the total cost adds them.

This is what allows two ponds stocked a month apart to be compared honestly, rather than blurred into one month's spending.

Mortality is not an estimate

Every mortality is logged with a count and a cause. Survivors is the stocking less all of them, and the survival rate follows.

Operators usually know a bad week happened; recording the count and the cause is what turns it into a comparison between cycles and a reason to buy a second aerator.

Sampling projects the harvest

A sampling records the average weight in grams, the water pH and the dissolved oxygen. Estimated biomass is that weight times the recorded survivors.

Because the projection uses the pond's own mortality rather than an assumed survival percentage, it tends to be closer to what the harvest actually yields.

Cost per kilo against the buying price

Cost per kilo is the cycle's total cost over the kilos harvested. Set beside the price each buyer paid, it is the whole business in one comparison.

It also shows what a supermarket paying more with terms is really worth against a consignacion paying less in cash on the day.
