May web app, online store, booking system, o business portal ka ba? Ask your developer or hosting provider whether it runs on Node.js and needs the latest security fixes.

What has been confirmed?

The Node.js project published security releases on October 21, 2026, addressing 10 listed security issues. These include CVE-2026-111497, a high-severity flaw in the Brotli decoder that can allow remote code execution. The advisory identifies the 22.x, 24.x and 26.x lines as affected by that flaw.

Your developer should determine which issues apply to your application and how it is deployed. A headline alone does not establish whether your specific website is exploitable or has been compromised.

Which versions contain the fixes?

  • Node.js 22.23.4 for the 22.x line.
  • Node.js 24.22.1 for the 24.x line.
  • Node.js 26.12.1 for the 26.x line.

Use the appropriate fixed version or a later supported release containing the fixes. If you rely on a managed platform or a vendor-maintained package, ask the provider to confirm the patch status of the actual runtime. Unsupported versions need a supported upgrade plan.

What should business owners ask?

Send your developer or hosting provider this message:

"Does our website or business system use Node.js? Please check the October 21 security advisory, including CVE-2026-111497. Confirm our deployed runtime and any container images are patched, restart or redeploy as needed, and test our key business features."

Ask them to:

  • Identify the runtime used by each live web app, API and background service.
  • Prepare a backup and recovery plan before making changes.
  • Update the appropriate runtime, rebuild affected images and activate the updated deployment as needed.
  • Test logins, forms, bookings, checkout and integrations where relevant.
  • Confirm the version actually running and report any remaining actions.

Updating Node.js on a developer's laptop alone does not confirm that the hosted application is patched. An npm package update alone also does not establish the server runtime's patch status.
